Salon Intrigue expands into former Inizio Space

Mykal Scaletti, a nail technician at Salon Intrigue, recently sat down with us to fill us in on the details of their exciting new renovation and expansion, in which he was fortunate enough to be involved.  Salon Intrigue, originally opened in July 2000,  just celebrated its ten year anniversary.  Their new expansion was completed June 2010.

Mykal gave us the scoop about their new expansion space: they added ten additional hair stations, ten of the city’s most talented service providers, and approximately 1,300 square feet, bringing the salon to a total of twenty-three stations, thirty-seven team members, and 4,000 square feet.  They’re also excited to announce the addition of a massage room and an aesthetic room for facials and waxing.

Mykal said he previously worked with the many of the new team members and had kept a relationship with them over the years.  When Salon Intrigue was expanding,  Mykal contacted them and they were very excited about coming to work at the "new" Salon Intrigue!

Salon Intrigue decided to take advantage of this expansion opportunity because the space next door, which Mykal says they had always wanted, finally became available.  He said they wanted to be a full service salon, and they were fortunate to be a very busy rental salon and lucky to have the talented people to occupy it.

Mykal remarked that business has been busier than ever since they expanded, with an “insane” walk-in business because of their new sign.  In addition, he said they always have a great advertisement in DexKnows, as well as in the Basilica newsletter, Facebook, Gigi’s Guide website, and of course their continually expanding website.

Regarding that massive new signage, Mykal explained that the marquee had always been there because of the architectural design of the building.  The departure of the gift store next door opened up the marquee space.  Salon Intrigue wanted to advertise all four of their services on the sign, and went through several steps over two months to get the sign they wanted, which is beautiful, lit up and very visible.

In choosing new furnishings for the expansion and renovation, they first wanted new waiting room chairs.  The chairs they found have a beautiful daisy pattern in vibrant, warm earthtones.  They designed the entire salon, along with the gorgeous jewel-toned glass tile and wall colors, around those chairs.  The look they’ve created, with its exposed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, a tropical fish tank, and an inviting fireplace, is an explosion of a warm, inviting, sexy, modern, yet chic 21st century feel.

Mykal describes the vibe of Salon Intrigue as high energy, upbeat, and trendy.  He said people walk in and say it’s such a positive and inviting space, and the staff at the front desk are always warm and welcoming.

Mykal says Salon Intrigue stands out from other salons because they’re the busiest, most upscale, largest rental salon in the Minneapolis area.  They have award-winning stylists with twenty-five years experience.  They offer many different lines of hair products.  He said Aveda is huge there, and they also carry Moroccan Oil, and an Italian line of haircare called Davines, a hot newer product which is flying off the shelves.  In addition, they have a skin care line called Image as well as OPI products.

Mykal is very enthusiastic about their new expansion. “We are so excited about the look and feel of this space, so excited we can offer any service needed, and we can offer gift certificates and packages.”  Mykal said they love being in the West Calhoun neighborhood because “it’s such a prime location, close to the lakes, Whole Foods Market, Uptown, the freeways. A perfect location for the massive walk-in business we have daily.”

West Calhoun Neighborhood Council congratulates Salon Intrigue on their ten year anniversary and their dynamic new space.  Stop by when you’re in the neighborhood and check out them out, and think about booking a haircut, pedicure, massage or facial while you’re there!
