MVPCC August 2023 Institute

The MVPCC Institute training focuses on promoting understanding of topics and gaining skills around how to be actively engaged in violence prevention in the community. All the material incorporates a lens of racial equity and the social determinants of health.

The following topics will be covered:

The Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention- Learn about the framework of violence prevention that emphasizes participation from diverse groups such as health, education, social services, justice, policy, and private sector to reduce violence in communities with a focus on community-level responses that address the impact of social determinants of health and racial equity on violence prevention.

N.E.A.R Science (Neurobiology, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and Resilience - Learn about how our brain works under stress, how trauma can be passed down from generation to generation, how to identify adverse experiences that can impact a child's development and their response to stress and how ACEs impact violence and violence prevention.

De-escalation and Conflict Resolution Skills - Learn problem solving and communication skills necessary for building strong relationships, settling disagreements peacefully, and de-escalating situations.

This training will be in-person on August 19th, 2023, and lunch will be provided. Please join us at the Northeast Library (2200 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis MN 55418). The institute will be from 10 AM to 3:00 PM.

Following the completion of the institute, participants will receive a certificate of completion, as well as other violence prevention resources. Finally, new champions will be invited to attend “spotlight trainings” on a bi-monthly to continue to build on skills gained in the institute.
