Meet your neighbors, indulge in delicious treats from food trucks, groove to live music, and join in games with exciting giveaways. Neighborhood Talks w/ Alissa Light
On March 19 Alissa Light, Executive Director of The Bakken Museum, will be talking about The Bakken’s influence on the neighborhood, the city, and the state.
The Bakken is a one-of-a-kind museum and experience that celebrates relationships, storytelling, and experiential learning, sparking joy and innovation.
The Bakken also offers events like the Young Makers Inventors Club, Tinkering after Dark, and Science Studios, for the young and not-so-young.
We hope that you will plan to attend this dynamic talk and hear more about ways you can get involved in the neighborhood.

MVPCC Institute Training
MVPCC August 2023 Institute
The MVPCC Institute training focuses on promoting understanding of topics and gaining skills around how to be actively engaged in violence prevention in the community. All the material incorporates a lens of racial equity and the social determinants of health.
The following topics will be covered:
The Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention- Learn about the framework of violence prevention that emphasizes participation from diverse groups such as health, education, social services, justice, policy, and private sector to reduce violence in communities with a focus on community-level responses that address the impact of social determinants of health and racial equity on violence prevention.
N.E.A.R Science (Neurobiology, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and Resilience - Learn about how our brain works under stress, how trauma can be passed down from generation to generation, how to identify adverse experiences that can impact a child's development and their response to stress and how ACEs impact violence and violence prevention.
De-escalation and Conflict Resolution Skills - Learn problem solving and communication skills necessary for building strong relationships, settling disagreements peacefully, and de-escalating situations.
This training will be in-person on August 19th, 2023, and lunch will be provided. Please join us at the Northeast Library (2200 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis MN 55418). The institute will be from 10 AM to 3:00 PM.
Following the completion of the institute, participants will receive a certificate of completion, as well as other violence prevention resources. Finally, new champions will be invited to attend “spotlight trainings” on a bi-monthly to continue to build on skills gained in the institute.

Rail Safety Exercise
On June 29 the Minneapolis Fire Department will conduct a field exercise involving a hypothetical rail emergency in a southwest Minneapolis rail corridor. The City of Minneapolis would like to offer residents the opportunity to observe the exercise. Observation in the field will be preceded by a classroom discussion regarding Incident Command, hazardous materials response, and how information is communicated to the public during an emergency. Residents can attend the classroom portion only, or both. Space is limited and registration is required.

Free (un-metered) on-street parking is available but can be in high demand. There is also a parking lot (Basilica Lot) operated by ABM Parking Services at 13 N 17th Street, with a daily rate of $5.

June 29 - Observe Field Exercise
11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Following classroom instruction, interested participants will be transported to a designated area to observe the field exercise. A hazardous materials expert will be available to answer questions. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and will be provided any required personal protective equipment.

Future event
For those unable to participate on June 29, another opportunity will be available later this summer. An evening, virtual, meeting will be held to-debrief the exercise and answer questions. Partner agencies will also be invited to join to answer questions about rail safety, including questions about rail safety during construction of Southwest LRT.

Sunset in the Parks is a new Minneapolis Parks Foundation fundraising event that features a beautiful summer evening of food, music, games, and socializing in a pop-up dinner setting at a Minneapolis park. The secret location will be announced a few weeks prior to the event!
The Minneapolis Parks Foundation transforms human lives through parks and public spaces by aligning philanthropic investment and community vision. All proceeds from this event go directly into supporting the mission and vision of the Parks Foundation to create equitable and accessible park assets throughout the city.
What to expect:
We'll provide tables, chairs, music, yard games, photo booth, and a lovely park setting. You'll bring your preferred food, beverages (beer & wine welcome), cups, utensils, & table decor including linens to beautify and personalize your experience!

This Community Celebration is to honor the hard work that went into the Roof Depot Urban Farm campaign. This family-friendly event will feature speeches from coalition leaders, a local native rapper, Little Earth Drummers, Father's Day Round Dance, music, food, mutual aid, information tables from supporters, and much much more. The success of the East Phillips Urban Farm campaign heavily featured critical organizing from TCDSA. This is a win that we worked hard for, and this celebration is an incredible organizing opportunity to strengthen solidarity with diverse working-class people here.

A block party celebration of Juneteenth.
Join Bridge For Youth at commUNITY Juneteenth celebration! We’re closing down the street in front of The Bridge for a block party on Sunday, June 11th along Emerson Ave., from 22nd-24th Street. Enjoy live entertainment, fun activities, sponsor booths & food from local food trucks! We’ll also have the Mobile Youth Outreach Center bus parked for tours. Our city leadership on this effort are Deputy Commissioner Patrick Hanlon and Director Kim Havey, both from the Department of Sustainability, Healthy Homes, and Environment. We have the new policy to share, and then there are the proposed actions, which would help us to reach the goals of that plan. It’s important to consider how both of these things work together.
